Hello and welcome to my little spot on the internet. I realize that before getting to know anyone, most of us poke around on social media first. I do the same thing, so I thought a small note from me could help give a snapshot of what to expect.
To keep it simple, all I am is who I love—that my family and friends who also walk with the carpenter from the Galilee. My wife and I have passed the Silver Anniversary mark of marriage at a relatively young age due to being best friends growing up. At Lubbock High she was a modern dancer and I a rock musician. The liberal arts are still a fun place for us to connect.
After we graduated, I grabbed her hand and we jumped off the edge of anything practical. We journeyed up the once in a life time peaks of the entertainment business down to the depths of its belly. There, wallowing at the bottom, the Lord caused me to face a few things that brought me to Him.
After the Lord restored us into something He could work with I answered the call to ministry. We started In Triumph, a transitional home for young adults who buried themselves into some dark situations. As we invited drug addicts, dealers, and prostitutes into our home the Lord continued to shape my heart to fit His purpose. I started off by giving those who had no opportunity in life a quasi-seminary training for free. This was to give them the full council of the gospel of Christ. It was here I learned how to teach the systematics of theology, church history, Biblical hermeneutics, homiletics and of course Christian apologetics to those who the world despised. I think getting this particular ministry off the ground has taught me some of the greatest things in my life.
Anyway, I also pastor a small church in Denison Texas where I enjoy getting to talk about Jesus to some of my closed friends. We keep the main thing the main thing despite the temptations to add mechanisms that would achieve width instead of depth. We are focused on learning about how God wants to be worshipped through His son and how to support each other along the way when we fall short.
So this website might be the first page of your new chapter. I have two podcast channels, one being Pete Orta’s Sermons that I release every Sunday and the other is called Christian Conversations: Unfiltered where I have unedited conversations to shape a stronger Christian worldview. I’d love for you to listen at first, then at some point you might find a way to engage the world before you with the Gospel of Christ.
Soli Deo gloria,
Pete
